Welcome Back 2017

Head Of School's First Day Letter - Tuesday, Sept 5, 2017

Dear Parents, Guardians and Friends,

A Warm Welcome Back to our Students and Parents

Welcome to what will be another fantastic year at Aberdeen Hall. The school looks great and the teachers are very excited to start off the new academic year.

Our Fantastic Faculty

The entire faculty had a great week of professional development last week. We enjoyed workshops on Inquiry Based Learning and Technology in Schools and carefully examined the requirements of the new provincial curriculum.  I am glad to report that we have the best academic team ever, with a number of excellent additions including a new Director of Academics, physical education and fine art specialists, and a registered clinical counselor.

By the Numbers

Today we welcome approximately 656 students, including 30 international students and 145 'new' students.  We are also excited to have 50 Graduate students in Grade 12, eleven new teachers, and a new front office administrator.

Exciting Programming Starts Right Away

This morning we sent 150 senior students (Grades 9,10 and 11) off on their Horizon's Week camping experience.  We also had a series of divisional assemblies and our athletic tryouts start later this week for Boys Senior Soccer, 7/8 Rugby, and numerous Girls Volleyball teams.

Phase 5 Campus Expansion Well Underway

Phase 5 is well underway, with the forms and concrete walls going up in the next week or so.  We are adding a double gym studio with an outdoor athletic area, a 140 seat lecture theatre and traditional classrooms.  A total of 10 new teaching spaces are included in this phase and we are looking forward to completion by this summer.

Road Detour and Getting to School

We sincerely appreciated your positive approach regarding traffic this morning.  Although these street closures are beyond our control we will continue to do all that we can to ease congestion around the school and as always welcome your feedback and suggestions.

The road construction is schedule to be completed in July 2018.

The city has been very helpful working with the school, including the creation of the turnaround at the end of Academy Way.
