September 3, 2021Back to School Protocols

Dear Aberdeen Hall Community Members,

The faculty have just completed an excellent week of professional development at the school, and we are prepared and excited to be starting a new school year.

Inter-school athletics are back on, events such as the Golf Tournament and the Holiday Social are once again on the calendar, and we really hope to see more of you this year. We are hopeful that after we overcome this fourth wave, we will continue on the path to normalcy.

Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our students, teachers, staff, volunteers, parents and members of our community. It is for this reason that we continue to take precautions to protect against COVID-19.

With the current developments regarding the fourth wave of COVID-19 in British Columbia, and in particular in the Interior, we are visiting and adjusting our school safety plans on an almost daily basis. We expect this to continue for the next few months, and we ask that you partner with us on making the required adjustments to our protocols.

Please see this link for our Safe Return to School plan.

We strongly believe that one of the safest ways to protect our school community is for all eligible individuals twelve years old and older to receive their two vaccinations as soon as possible.

Receiving the recommended COVID-19 vaccinations will help continue to protect our students, employees and our community by reducing transmission and the severity of the symptoms associated with COVID-19.

The Leadership Team, Board of Directors and legal council have carefully researched the policies and procedures of other independent and public schools in British Columbia and have implemented a number of enhanced measures.

We have learned that Aberdeen Hall’s safety measures, and vaccination protocols are amongst the most stringent in the province.

Some of our enhanced safety measures include:

  • State-of-the-art ventilation system
  • Physical distancing augmented by unobtrusive plexiglass barriers on desks
  • Separating the class cohorts, especially during meal times when masks are off
  • Teachers ensuring students use hand sanitizers that are mounted at the entrances to the school and to classrooms
  • Frequent cleaning of high touch points throughout each day combined with regular overnight cleaning that meets the standards of the Center for Disease Control (CDC)

Almost all of our employees are completely vaccinated. We understand and respect that there are some valid reasons for not receiving the vaccination. Our unvaccinated employees will follow enhanced protocols such as a robust rapid testing program, daily health check declarations, more frequent hand and workstation sanitization and other measures to ensure our community’s safety.

We thank you for helping us to make our school a safe and healthy place to learn and work.

Sincerely,

Chris Grieve
Head of School
