Our Junior School (Kindergarten - Grade 5) is a welcoming community, focussed on fostering kind, caring and curious thinkers, prepared with the academic and social skills needed to carry them forward confidently throughout their time at school. Through our emphasis on community building and character development, each child feels safe and connected at school. Rooted in the BC Ministry of Education’s concept and competency based curriculum, learning rigorously goes beyond expectations to celebrate strengths and support areas of growth. Students are invited to dive deeper, engaging in learning that emphasizes foundational literacy and numeracy skills, while at the same time, challenges them to demonstrate their understanding in a variety of creative learning opportunities.

In the Junior School we:

Follow the Gryphon Code (adapted from the BC Ministry of Education Core Competencies)

Providing students with a common vocabulary around their approaches to learning and interactions with the world around them supports executive functioning skills and promotes community building.

Develop confident readers

Each child enjoys a multi sensory approach to literacy learning, developing into fluent, critical readers, who can think beyond the text to make connections that deepen their comprehension and understanding.

Love thinking mathematically

Our students have a strong numeracy foundation, which helps them apply their mathematical thinking when solving complex, real world problems.

Ask questions, work collaboratively and share our learning

Junior School students love to show what they know and share their learning with the community. Inquiry projects, drama productions, musical showcases, and student led conferences are but a sampling of the way learning is celebrated here.
