The last few weeks have been busy ones for our Arts department here at Aberdeen Hall. With students performing at our recent gala, as well as during our annual BuskerFest performance here on campus, music has been a focus! The BuskerFest tradition is one we look forward to each year, as students in our Grade 7 and 8 Middle School Music Program work in small groups to prepare songs for their community. Students learn about collaborating as part of a team, and develop their sense of perseverance as they practice together under the supervision of our talented Arts department team. Then, in front of an audience of their peers and members of our community, students perform with their band members on stages set up around our beautiful campus. Seeing our music students performing, our student MCs introducing each act, and our improv club acting in between sets was an absolute delight!
We take pride in offering a wide breadth of programming to cater to the diverse interests and talents of our students, and our Middle School Arts program is designed to provide opportunities for students to explore and develop their passions. In Grade 6-8 students develop their understanding of musical theory, explore playing an instrument, and spend time on stage, performing in front of an audience. While they learn how to play violin, cello, guitar or percussion instruments from our team of music teachers and professional musicians, they also develop a wide range of skills and abilities that will support them throughout their education journey - and beyond!
A strong focus on providing quality Arts education to our student body means that our students in the Middle School take drama, visual arts, media arts and music classes throughout Grades 6-8. We know that every student benefits from developing an appreciation for the beauty of the arts, and gains from the practice habits, brain/hand connections, and collaboration skills that come from taking part in these classes. This year, our Middle School Buskerfest was such a wonderful reminder of the importance of having students participate in robust arts programs, and we can’t wait to continue this tradition next year!
At Aberdeen Hall, we seek to admit well-rounded students who choose to be at our school. We are looking for students who demonstrate leadership through academic performance, involvement in co-curricular activities and civic engagement. We care about our students and seek those who value education and are prepared to enrich our incredible school community.
