Aberdeen Hall Preparatory School in Kelowna, BC has reached another milestone in offering students from the surrounding areas of the Okanagan Valley the opportunity to attend one of British Columbia’s top independent schools.
The Weekly Boarding Program offers high school students from outside the Kelowna region the opportunity to attend Aberdeen Hall and live with a local host family Monday to Friday, returning home on weekends and holidays. This unique structure provides the best of both worlds: access to a top preparatory school that focuses on university placement, as well as preserving strong family and community ties
We understand that geographical restrictions have limited the educational choices for many families throughout the interior of BC. The Weekly Boarding Program is designed for high school aged students who live within 100-200KM of our Kelowna campus, so that it’s feasible to return home on weekends. Weekly Boarding opens up a whole new option for residents of Penticton, Vernon, Kamloops, Merritt, and other areas where a daily commute is difficult.
Adjacent to the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus, Aberdeen Hall sits on 42 acres of land and provides state-of-the-art facilities, including the magnificent Great Hall with sky labs, new Mac computer labs, a digital recording and design studios, specialized science and robotics labs and exceptional athletic and fine arts areas.
Our dedicated teaching and administrative team focus on equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to have success at university, and lead meaningful, fulfilling lives as compassionate and contributing citizens.
For more information, or to setup a tour of the school, please contact our admissions office at 1-250-491-1270, our Director of Admissions at firstname.lastname@example.org or our Weekly Boarding Co-ordinator, Elaine Crebo at email@example.com.
Students live with carefully selected Host Families; all of whom are interviewed in their home by our Family Boarding Coordinator. Host Families must pass the school’s screening process which includes a criminal record check.
Students are provided with a private, fully furnished bedroom with bedding, a desk, chair and lamp. Bathroom facilities may be private or shared. The Host Family provide nutritious meals and snacks. Students have access to laundry facilities and the common living areas of the house. This is the student’s ‘home away from home’.
If your child lives with a family who drives their child to Aberdeen Hall, they will ride together. There is also an Aberdeen Hall school bus, with fees ranging from $100 – $140 month depending on the location of the Host Family’s home. A bus pass on public transportation is approximately $70/month with a frequent schedule to and from the UBC Okanagan campus adjacent to Aberdeen Hall.
The Host Family will provide transportation to the closest Greyhound Bus station on Friday after school, and meet the student upon their return on Sunday.
Students in the Weekly Family Boarding Program return home for all long weekends and school holidays.
The student is expected to follow the rules the Host Family has for other members of the household (curfew, wifi, lights out, etc.).
Students are encouraged to participate in the household chores that would be expected of other children of a similar age (e.g. setting the table, washing dishes, keeping room clean).
The student will cover all personal/individual costs outside of the $750/mo. room and board fees. For example:
